Ülker and AEG Facilities are thrilled to announce that Istanbul’s new 15,000-seat Ülker Sports Arena opened its doors for the first time last Thursday evening.

The state-of-the-art sports and entertainment venue (pictured) played host to resident Turkish Basketball League Champions Fenerbahçe Ülker who faced EA7 Emporio Armani in a competitive Turkish Airlines Euroleague encounter.

Development and construction of Turkey’s largest arena started in 2008 and was designed to offer the maximum in comfort and entertainment for fans, athletes and entertainers alike, with a varied array of premium seating and amenities, including multiple VIP lounges, luxury suites, bunker lounges and a ‘dine and view’ restaurant overlooking the country’s first multi-functional arena.

In addition to Fenerbahçe Ülker’s Turkish Airlines Euroleague, Turkish League games and an upcoming night of basketball which will feature the world famous Harlem Globetrotters, Ülker Sports Arena is also slated to host a variety of concerts, including the Troya Show (scheduled February 17). Ülker Sports Arena is operated by AEG which owns, operates or consults for more than 100 of the industry’s pre-eminent venues worldwide, across five continents, and works in synergy with affiliated AEG entities, including live event producer, AEG Live, AEG Global Partnerships and AEG Development to support the success of AEG venues across the globe.

Rod O’Connor, Executive Vice President for AEG Facilities, Europe (and a keynote speaker at TheStadiumBusiness Summit 2011 in Barcelona last year) said: “In the city where East meets West, Istanbul, Ülker Sports Arena further demonstrates AEG Facilities’ commitment to reach out to sports and music fans across Europe. Through our exciting partnership with Ülker and Euroleague Basketball, we’ve been able to realise our vision which we first laid out in 2008 of bringing a premier venue to what is a key market for AEG Facilities.

“I’m incredibly proud that AEG Facilities has played an instrumental role in the design and construction of this truly amazing venue and I’m excited that we’ll be furthering the case for Istanbul and Turkey as a destination for international sports and music events.”

Ahmet Ozokur, Member of the Board of Directors of Yıldız Holding, said: “All eyes across the globe will be Ülker Sports Arena, Fenerbahçe Ülker’s new home. With our partner AEG, which is a global pioneer in arena management, our arena will help sports fans and music lovers have very unique and wonderful experiences while contributing to the development of basketball in Turkey. We are proud to open our doors to the fans.”

Jordi Bertoméu, CEO of Euroleague Basketball, added: “This arena is another great step in our relationship with AEG. We hope that new buildings like this will help grow the popularity of basketball in Turkey and Europe.”

Organisers Xperiology have today announced that TheStadiumBusiness Summit will, for the first time, be a trilingual event: with simultaneous translation services to be offered to delegates in both Italian AND French.

Set to be held in Turin, Italy this May, the Summit – the largest dedicated meeting in the world of the owners, the operators and the developers of the world’s leading stadiums, arenas and major sport venues – was already scheduled to be bilingual; with SimTran of the main English conference sessions into Italian.

“Thus, we look forward to welcoming our colleagues from France, Italy, and the global stadium business, to Turin this May for what will truly be the definitive meeting of our sector!”

EVENT UPDATE: With four months to go until the biggest stadium business meeting of the year Xperiology, the organisers of TheStadiumBusiness Summit 2012 in Turin, have announced a second allocation of hotel rooms at the Lingotto conference venue.

“We have filled our initial hotel allocation with our earlybird offer,” comments Angelina Tennino, Conference Director at Xperiology. “This early demand has allowed us to negotiate further rooms from the Lingotto properties and offer them as a free incentive to those booking before the end of January. We want all our international delegates to be staying in the same hotels so that they maximise networking and meeting time.”
