Design & Development Summit Speaker Preview: New Perth Stadium
The new Perth Stadium and Sports Precinct, located on the Burswood Peninsula, will enhance Perth’s reputation as a world-class destination, attracting national and international sport and entertainment events.
The 60,000-seat multi-purpose venue (with the potential to increase to 70,000), will be capable of hosting AFL, rugby union and league, football (soccer), cricket and entertainment events.
The budget for the Stadium is $902.4m (AUS) plus $339m (AUS) for transport infrastructure.
Stadium construction commences at the end of 2014 and will be completed in time for the start of the 2018 AFL season.
Representing the project, and speaking at TheStadiumBusiness Design & Development Summit 2014 in Madrid, will be Ronnie Hurst (left), the Project Director for this vision.
Hurst explains: “The key objectives are to deliver a Stadium which provides an outstanding fan experience, that offers the best value for money to taxpayers and is delivered on time.”
Meet, learn and share with Ronnie Hurst at the Summit as he highlights how and why these key project decisions were made.
Also, be amongst the first to hear the status of the project ahead of construction beginning at the end of the year.
With a ‘fans first’ approach to planning and design, the Stadium will offer an unrivalled spectator experience including exceptional event atmosphere and cutting edge stadium technology.
The Stadium will be integrated within a broader Precinct, providing opportunities for the development of cafes, alfresco dining, playgrounds, community spaces and other infrastructure that can be utilised on both event and non-event days.
The West Australian State Government has entered into contract negotiations with the preferred respondent, WESTADIUM, to design, build, part-finance and maintain the Stadium and Sports Precinct. It is expected the contract will be awarded and the design revealed in mid-2014.
Additionally, the new Perth Stadium will be built with integrated train, bus and pedestrian solutions to provide spectators with multiple transport options.
The new Perth Stadium and Sports Precinct comprises 6 hectares of the northern portion of Burswood Peninsula.
