Speaker Preview: Allegiant Stadium – the one to see

Last year all industry eyes were on Tottenham Hotspur FC to see what it was delivering in its new stadium. This year eyes are being drawn ‘across the pond’ to the NFL and on the latest generation of the USA’s mega-stadia. And where better to experience sports as entertainment – one of the key industry design trends – than in the self-proclaimed “The Entertainment Capital of the World” – Las Vegas!

Nearing completion Allegiant Stadium is the ultimate, state-of-the-art sports and entertainment venue, serving the needs of not only the NFL’s Raiders and the University of Nevada (UNLV)’s Rebels football teams but also a myriad of entertainment experiences for Las Vegas locals and visitors alike.

The US$1.7 billion stadium is a 10-level, domed structure with a clear ETFE roof, a retractable natural grass field, silver and black exterior wrap and a huge, retractable curtain window facing the famous Las Vegas Strip. The design includes multiple patios and terraces, a range of hospitality spaces and a signature torch opposite one end zone that houses a flame in honor of Al Davis, the late long-time owner of the Raiders. The torch will be 85 feet (26 m) tall and will be the largest 3D printed object in the world.

In August, Garth Brooks – the number one selling solo artist in US History with over 181 million records sold – is scheduled to be the first major concert to be held in Allegiant Stadium. Before that a series of opening, test events will prepare for the big opening ahead of the 2019/20 NFL Football Season.
